WILD WILD WEST is my very first erotica romance. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read some pretty darn steamy romances. With Charlene Teglia’s book, I actually walked away with more knowledge than I started. And it’s not a book you can read all in one sitting, at least not for an amateur like me. This book is like rich imported chocolate. It needs to be taken in small bites and savored.
The story begins with three Montana cowboys. Let me stop there so I can add a “mmm mmm good.” They stop in at the Lemon Espresso, a little city-style coffeehouse. It’s not coffee these cowboys are after though. Gabe has his eye on Willow, a poet who’s giving a reading that evening. Chet Andrews has his radar on Jolie McIntyre and Reuben Black knew Laura Jamieson, the coffee shop owner, was the one for him. He’d known this since the day he first saw her.
Each couple has their own private, steamy story to share. Three stories. One book. A must read for romance fans.
Surprise time! Charlene Teglia stopped by to chat about writing and her upcoming projects. Here’s our conversation:
Welcome to J. Kaye’s Book Blog! I am thrilled to have you here. WILD WILD WEST is my first erotica romance. I promise you, it won’t be my last. For viewers who have never read a book in this sub-genre, tell us what makes a romance novel erotica?
Thanks for inviting me! I'm so glad you enjoyed Wild Wild Wild especially since it was your introduction to the erotic romance genre. The definition has proven tricky to pin down, although Morgan Hawke has defined it as a new genre of women's adventure novels and I think she's dead right. In an erotic romance, expect a spirit of adventure along with smoking hot sex, true love, and a happily ever after!
I love the term smoking hot sex! When reading your book, I had to remind myself to breath a few times. How did you get your start in writing and have you always written in this genre?
I actually started out writing greeting cards, literary fiction and poetry, and technical writing. *g* But I really launched my fiction career with Love and Rockets, my first novel published by Ellora's Cave. That won the 2005 Romantic Times award for Best Erotic Novel, which led my St. Martin's editor to approach me. I have been writing spicily ever after since!
What an achievement! What are you working on now?
Satisfaction Guaranteed, my second St. Martin's release, will be available in stores in late February-early March, so there's new release activity. And I'm working on Animal Attraction, a single title erotic paranormal for St. Martin's, and a paranormal erotic novella called Two Knights In Camelot for Ellora's Cave. Both feature menage a trois relationships.
I totally love paranormal and will be looking out. I’ve already pre-ordered Satisfaction Guaranteed (link above for readers) and can’t wait to read that one too. What do you do when you are not writing?
When I'm not writing, I have two small children to play with, read to, and care for, a house to keep clean, laundry to keep up with a husband who likes to see more than the back of my head, friends and extended family, and outdoor hobbies. Hiking and biking are favorite get-away-from-the-keyboard activities.
With two small children, I don’t see how you can manage it all. I admire you! For aspiring writers out there, what is the best advice you can give them?
Keep writing, and follow your instincts. If what you want to write isn't selling now, your time may come if you're patient. The market always cycles. Make time for what's important to you, and don't wait for anybody to give you permission. Write, learn, write more, learn more, keep submitting!
That sounds like great advice. I just gotta ask this question. Who are your favorite authors?
Too many to list. But for a start, Lois McMaster Bujold, Terry Pratchett, Stephen King, Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Crusie, Loretta Chase, Dean Koontz, Jaci Burton, Joey Hill, Shelby Reed, Lynn Viehl.
Charlene, I could chat with you all day, but I know you are busy. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to chat.
It was a pleasure!
Stay tuned for more books from Charlene Teglia in the upcoming months! After WILD WILD WEST, I am addicted to her books.
Until Next Review,
Happy Reading!

i enjoy your books!
Is it getting warm in here...*fanning*...?
I am intrigued to say the least. I'd like to see the difference between the erotic romance as opposed to the 'bodice rippers' or other romance novels that have had pretty hottie scenes.
Especially the upcoming paranormal erotic romance. I love paranormal.
Gotta say, I love the cowboy angle.....love them Wranglered butts.
Great interview!
Hi, I wonder if I could handle this book! It would be new reading to me.
Thanks,Cindi

Cindi, I think it would depend on whether you like romance. I do. I have my favorites, but I love to read romance novels, love stories, etc. I've been getting close to the erotica sub-genre, but this is the very first one. I found it on another blog. When I saw Montana and cowboys, that was enough for me. It's been a long time since I have read about a cowboy hunkie.
blackroze37 & Breeni Books - thank you soooooo much.
vickie - I am sooooo with you on that. Love 'em cowboys. :)
WooHoo!! (is that enough of a comment?)
wild wild west westerns, romance. Sounds like my cup of hot chocolate.
Sounds like a great book! My favorite "erotica" author is Angela Knight although at times I'm more interested in the story and kind of skim some of the sex parts (unheard of for me!) because there are just too many.
I normally just read the 'erotica' type books around Christmastime - Lori Foster has some awesome Christmas themed ones! But maybe I should give one a try during the other 11 months, too!
J. Kaye. Thanks for sharing your comments on this book. I had forgotten that I wanted to check this book out and now after reading your comments and Charlene Teglia's great interview. This book is going back on the top of my list to get.
Great interview - and yes, nothing better than a yummy cowboy - but three?? Sounds fantastic!!
Tell you right now, if you think THIS book was hot, it's NOTHING compared to her latest- Satisfaction Guaranteed. I got an ARC of it as a review copy (I review erotic romances as a hobby for two ebook sites). These were good steamy novellas to get you to jump your husband. Don't have Wild Wild West yet...but maybe I'll get it here- hmmm?
By the way, this book won for its category in the annual The Romance Studio's CAPA (Cupid and Psyche Awards) so you know it's good!
I could go on and on and on about the erotica romance category. It's my favorite to read.
Sorry girls, I mispoke just a while ago. Mistook Charlie's book Wild, Wild West with another that won (Wild, Wild, Women of the West). That book (WWWof West) won. Beat me with a wet noodle....I've been reading too many erotic romances lately!
This sounds like exactly the book I'd want to read. Both of them sound good- I have read Ms. Teglia's Ellora's Cave books and they are yummy. Didn't know she's now with another publisher. Thanks!
