When?
Every Wednesday, here at J. Kaye's Book Blog, at 8:00 P.M.
How It Started
In 2006/07, I signed up for a couple of the popular book trading sites like BookMooch.com, Paperbackswap.com, and FrugalReader.com. I was trading more books than I gave away. Pretty soon, my office, bedroom and various shelves had books. When I started begging the kids if I could use their closets for space, they performed an intervention of sorts.
I couldn’t go cold turkey, so I quit all the trading sites but one. Still, family members weren’t impressed as the number of books still grew. I noticed another blog doing a raffle and that’s where the idea blossomed from.
What's Raffled?
Not all the books reviewed will be raffled. And not all raffles will include a book. There are other things raffled off as well.
The Rules
1) Beginning in October 2008, the giveaways will extend to US and Canada.
2) Some of you have common names. Make sure you identify who you are in your comments or have a link back to your blog. The reason is if there are two Sallies without distinguishing initials or a link, the first Sallie to email me with their shipping information gets the raffled item.
3) Also if you participate in this blog’s giveaways, then be a subscriber. Starting now, posting the winners' names will be the only notice winners will get. I will no longer email winners. Not sure how to subscribe to this blog? Look in the right sidebar under Subscribe. See where it says “Subscribe Now”? Click on that. You’ll need to decide whether you’d like to use Google Reader or subscribe my email. If you have any trouble, don’t hesitate to ask.
4) Participants can only win one book per raffle Saturday. Raffles are held twice a month, usually the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
5) You must be 18 years of age to enter.
Increase Your Chances To Win
When an author, promo team or publisher sends me a book, I spotlight the book. When the book is reviewed and raffled, I include the spotlight comments as well as the review comments together in the book raffle. So you can be entered twice by commenting on the Spotlight post and the Review post.
Post about the raffle on your blog and be entered a third time. All you'll need to do is:
1 - When you blog about this post, include a link to this post on your blog.
2 - Leave a comment (URL) to the post where you commented.
Stay Up-to-date
Never miss a post! Sign up for FeedBurner to the right of the page where is says "Enter your email address." Once you do, click enter. There will be a pop-up box for verification. You’ll then need to go to your email box for the confirmation link. Click that and you should be set. Once a day, you’ll get an email if there has been a post. J. Kaye's Book Blog is found on various blogs & articles on the internet. Only the comments posted here will enter the raffles.

Maybe I should raffle some books, but I don't get the blog readers that you command. I trade on WeightWatchers Booktalk message board, but mostly I take them to the BookKeeper, a used bookstore down the block.
Well one thing I saw some bloggers do is get other bloggers to blog about their raffles. Naida did this on one of hers. Speaking of which, I was supposed to blog about that! I am making a note right now!
Some weeks, I am so brainless!
LOL. I should have read your raffle rules before I said I'd put my name in for one. I live in Canada. LOL. Well I'll still post about your raffles if you want. I don't get a lot of visitors yet but some.
Please put me into this raffle. Being a teacher for many years, I have seen stuff like this happen before...not with tutors, but with parents. Wonder how this is similar to my experience.
Laura K ~ I think you clicked on the wrong link. This is the guidelines for the raffles.
My first time here. Hoping to win the raffle for "Off Season" by Anne Rivers Siddons. If there are further rules to entry, notify me. Thanks.
Audrey
Audrey ~ No other, only what is listed on this post. :)
what a great idea, a blogging raffle. I found the blog interesting and full of good stuff. I will list you at my blog as well, and thank Jewel for the information.
Warmly,
Terri

What a great idea, to raffle books off! I've been considering just giving them away once I've finished reading them, because they just stack up everywhere. LOL
Of course I will mention your blog. Duh, don't know why I don't do it more often. LOL. Hey, can I enter the raffles too? It doesn't say that other bloggers who do reviews can't enter??????????????????????????? Please pretty please, even if I live in Canada. LOL.
Wyn, Of course you can enter. :) There's a bunch of them going on right now.
Lana ~ I love passing these books on. There is no way I could keep them all. :)
Hi J. Kaye!
Nice blog. I love the idea of raffling books. I would like to set up a book blog for my library using Blogger. I like the way yours is set up. Have you tried any other blog providers? I've only used blogger (to create a blog for our reference librarians).
Looking forward to reading your blog in the future now that I've subscribed.
Krista the Krazy Kataloguer
Krista ~ I have. I first started with Blogger, then tried about ten others. I ended up back here with Blogger.
For a Library, I might go with WordPress. My reasons have come from my husband learning how to change formats, etc. It would have been earlier if I had gone with WP. Too late though. All my traffic comes here, so here I stay. ;)
Merry Christmas Everyone.
I am new to the blogging world. Actually, I have been thinking about starting my own book blog. But to be honest, I don't know where to even start.
Can anyone please give me insight.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also can't wait to enter your contests.
sharon54220 ~ If you are new, then I'd suggest you first look around and get a feel of it. After that, jump in. It's really the only way to learn. You'll make mistakes like the rest of us and well, that's how we learned...lol!
