SISTERS OF MISERY by Megan Kelley Hall

Book Description

There are some girls who have everything...

She has the right clothes, the right friends, and the right last name, but fifteen-year-old Maddie Crane sometimes feels like an outsider in her clique in the wealthy, seaside town of Hawthorne, Massachusetts. And when her gorgeous, eccentric cousin Cordelia LeClaire moves to town, Maddie is drawn toward her ethereal, magical spirit and teeters even more toward the edge of her friends' tightly-knit circle...
Then there are the jealous ones...

Kate Endicott and the Sisters of Misery--a secret clique of the most popular, powerful girls in school--are less than thrilled by Cordelia's arrival. When Kate's on-again, off-again boyfriend Trevor takes an interest in Cordelia, the Sisters of Misery become determined to make her pay...

Now Maddie must choose between the allure and power of the Sisters of Misery and her loyalty to her beloved cousin. But she'll have to give up on ever fitting in and accept the disturbing truth about the town, her friends, her mysterious cousin, and even herself as she faces the terrifying wrath of the Sisters of Misery...

J. Kaye’s Thoughts

With the book description above, I don’t feel a need to give a summary of the story. The book description pretty much tells enough. I will point out my feelings of the book, starting with the best part, the ending.

Many of you all know how I covet a primo ending to a story. Most of the time, the endings are good, fitting the story like it should. Some leave me with that “Ahhhh….” feeling afterwards or a feeling justice was done. SISTERS OF MISERY left me with an OMG feeling. It was fan-freakin-tastic. People, I got chills! There had better be a part two to this book or I will totally scream.

The beginning hooks you quickly. About a quarter of the way in, my mind began to wander. Please keep in mind. I suffer from bouts of A.D.D. A normal reader probably won’t feel this way. Nonetheless, I am taking a star/check off the rating for that.

Once I hit the midway though, I was locked in and wouldn’t let go of the book. The book is full of secrets that had me guessing all the way to the end. I am still wondering about Cordelia though. The book left me with questions at the end, but there is still an ending. The author didn’t leave me hanging in the wind. Instead, Hall had me craving for more.

This is the realism of mainstream fiction, but the intensity of a thriller. What an awesome writer!

Cheryl - thank you. I'll throw your name in twice!

Alea, Amy, Icedream, Sharon, Michele - this was one of the greatest books. I still don't know if there is a book II. All I can say is there better be. I was serious about the scream. It's gotta be a book II. The author set it up too perfectly for one.

Dar - I'll be emailing you shortly. (Got your email.) Trying to catch up from this three day break and I'm not impressed with my progress.

This sounds great!

Jaime - it is, it is, it is! What I didn't mention, and I guess should have is that the author really gets inside of the mind of a teen - especially the small town mentality. The realism is dead on!

Okay, you sold me on yet another one! Definitely adding this one right to the old wish list!

You know not to enter me for this, I hope... Not because it sounds bad, but because I think it's unfair that since I run Win a Book, I get to hear about lots of contests every day. If I entered all of them...

I just wanted to let you know that I'm a little slow today, but I got the post up at Win a Book.

Susan, I think you should be able to enter. We all have the option of getting an RSS reader and can hear about these raffles when they are posted on the original blog. Many times, I hear about a raffle before reading it on Win A Book.

So if you want your name thrown in, your should have your name in. :) It's very fair! :)

tetewa - got you entered!

Debi - It's a GREAT book! I read a review where it said this book too violent for teens...that review left me scratching my head. Or maybe it was preteens, still too violent?

Let's see...

There was no teen shooting, no serial killer, no blood, no knifing. Hello? What planet does that person live on?

Margay - It's been so long since your last comment, I was afraid we'd lost you. :) Guess I just wasn't posting the right books. I'll try and do better! Promise!! :-D
