School starts for Bill today and for the next four months, I will be the taxi mom seven days a week, instead of two. As depressing as this might sound, there is a light at the end of the tunnel...sort of. What the end of summer means is I'll be back at Curves again.
If you remember back when summer began and I took up the challenge provided by Debi Silber. I can hear some of you now saying "Oh yeah! I remember. Whatever happened with that?"
Well...hmmmm....I quit. It was going good for a couple or so weeks. Then, I forgot a day. The next time, I put it off until it was too late. A day grew into two, which grew into more and finally I said "BEEP it." But there is a learning lesson here. The only thing I have found that works is to join a health club. That said, it has to be scheduled in to when I am already leaving the house. If not, I won't go.
What about you? How do you stay in shape?

It's so darn hard to stay in shape! My friend and I decided that we wanted to lose ten pounds each during July. We both gained!
Walking is my favorite form of exercise. My neighborhood is very hilly so I go out each night and climb those hills. It gets my heart going and reenergizes me.
Of course, if I didn't eat so much, I'd be better off! But food is so darn good! I think I'll make myself an omelette for breakfast!
I am going to try this fall too. My youngest starts Pre-K on September 2nd, so I am hoping to jump on the bandwagon then.
I am hoping to join the YMCA and go to their fitness room.
Well... the moment I found out I got my job I never went back to the gym. It's horrible. I'm home for like 3.5 hours a night and I don't really feel like spending half my evening at the gym when I already feel like i have no time for anything and rush all over the place. Plus it was going to cost me more now, like 75 dollars a month when I'd go 8 times at the most a month. No thank you!
Um... I don't? Now that the boys are back in school and we're back on a schedule, I do want to get up and walk in the morning. Of course that didn't happen today...
I can't believe summer is already at an end and it's already too short here. As for staying in shape, that's a bit difficult for me. I have rheumatoid arthritis which makes exercise not so fun. I try to walk, do stretches and ride my stationary bike when I can. Just before summer I was doing really well. I had lost 24 lbs just watching what I was eating but then I had a bad spell and went back to my bad eating habits and gained back some of it. So I need to get back on the wagon and zip my lips shut when it comes to food.
I just try to find little things here and there that allow me to get some sort of exercise. I love riding my bike, but can only do that for certain times in the year due to the weather here. I have a treadmill and during commercial breaks I will do little exercises here and there. You can also find me doing little things when I am waiting in line. I don't struggle with my weight, so a lot of times I get lazy.
I run (maybe I should call it jogging ... I'm so slow) about 20 miles a week. I love it, so it's not a struggle in terms of motivation but sometimes I have sitter issues, and then there's the weather.
Everything does seem to change when school starts. Things just *feel* different.
No, I want the summer back!
Sadly I have yet to figure out how to stay in shape! Working at the bookstore was doing some of that for me and since then I've yet to make myself get into a work out routine that lasts more than a month. Maybe I'll hit the gym today, though.
Hi J. Kaye,
Hope you don't mind me putting in my 2 cents but it's me, Debi Silber...the author!
Don't give up! Just as the book suggests, go for progress, not perfection and find the best option that will work for you. If you've found that a gym is the way to go...great! Whatever you discover, keep in mind that if it's fun, doable and realistic, you're more likely to stick with it. That's when you make it part of your routine and begin to see results. That's also when you show yourself that you can set small goals, achieve them and feel proud about your progress.
Best of luck on your journey!

Hi J.
I joined a gym two years ago. I go 5 days a week. It was hard at first. But now I'm back in a size 4... Well it is worth it. I got a trainer for the first time ever. I'm addition to being cute, having a nice tush, he has really changed it up for me. I was actually sore last week. I am in a wedding in October so I'll keep you posted.
Oh my Farworld review is up! So is my pilot Podcast!
Oooh, this ones' easy! I don't. Need to, but I hate exercise.
Yeah, my days have gotten pretty sweet now that Lady K is in Kindergarten. She is in morning class, so once I walk her to school, the rest of the day is mine. She goes to KEEP, sort of extra Kindergarten, then goes to after school care. Love her elementary school for having these options. My free time is, of course, only on my four break days. I work six on and four off.
Curves! And sometimes I throw in a bit of treadmill walking. But it's frustrating and nothing seems to help. That's because I keep eating!
Linda Jacobs ~ I've totally given up on getting back down to my pre-daughter weight. I love to eat too much and to be honest, the struggle is not worth it.
What I want out of it is to just be in shape. I feel so much better, even with the excess pounds.
Kara I looked into the YMCA. That's a great program. They even have childcare.
Alea ~ $75...yikes! Curves is set up for a 30 minute workout and that's it. But even with your schedule, I'm not sure I'd do it.
Holly ~ I use to walk when we lived downtown and LOVED it. Our neighborhood is icky and I refuse to go. But my ideal workout is speed walking through the Capital grounds....beautiful!
Dar ~ I can't believe summer is over either. They say as you get older, time seems to speed up. They are right. :(
Kristie ~ I'd say I was lazy too, but I think I get bored. I hate to do the same thing over and over again...ugh!
Shana ~ LOL! It's jogging!
Becky LeJeune ~ Although I loved the summer schedule, I can't wait for fall. It's hot here!
Debi ~ No, what I am giving up on is the way I exercised - which has been a big learning experience for me. I will not stay motivated enough to do it at home. I need a gym and it needs to be at a time I am already leaving the house or I won't do it.
I've also discovered what I am willing to do and not to do. What I can live with and live without.
It's a journey about learning and growing...no matter what the age is.
Thank you for stopping by! :-D I love it!!
Bluestocking ~ That sounds fantastic.
Breeni Books ~ I did too until joining Curves. And though I can't say I LOVE exercise, I love the way I feel.
Vickie ~ Lots of time to get things done, huh? :)
Suey ~ You go to Curves too? I love the quick workout!
I have a friend that goes to Curves I've thought about trying it. I'm not sure that we could go together though and I wouldn't want to go alone. My mom and sister belong to the place I quit.
Alea ~ When I joined last year, I was at the end of my rope - seriously. I would have done just about anything. For some people, it doesn't work or give them what they are looking for. With me, it works out perfectly...most of the time...lol!
I like that it's only 30 minutes long. My gym was an hour+ usually 1.5 hours to get there and home :( It was also "weight training" which I just hated.
back when I was being good, and before it got so hot, I would walk the 2.75 miles to work in the morning and back in the evenings. I would also walk with my friend to brunch and back and get a little more in that way. I have a yoga membership but I haven't been in awhile. I need to get it together, and I am hoping that now that it is cooling down I can get back into my routine.
Alea ~ 1.5 hours to get there? Eek!
Nicole ~ Welcome to J. Kaye's Book Blog! Is this your first time here? If so, hope you become a regular.
Sorry I actually meant to leave the house, exercise and return home it's like 1 and a half hours total. Maybe 10 minutes each way for driving.
That's kind of funny because I can't do the health club at all. We have a family membership and I have never gone, not even once. I hate working out with other people and I'm not even overweight. Anyhow, I get up every morning and work out and then it's just over and done. I don't really give myself a chance to think about it. I start right away upon waking. Sometimes I'm not really even fully awake for a good 10 minutes into the workout.
Thanks for the welcome. I was stopping by from bookblogs. I'll come and visit again. I like all the different book opinions that you have on your site. It seems real communal and homey.
