The 2009 - 100+ Reading Challenge

The 100+ Reading Challenge will be hosted here this year. Here are the guidelines:

1) You can join anytime as long as you don’t start reading your books prior to 2009.

2) This challenge is for 2009 only. The last day to have all your books read is December 31, 2009.

3) You can join anytime between now and December 31, 2009.

5) When you sign up under Mr. Linky, list the direct link to your post where your 100+ books will be listed. If you list just your blog’s URL, it will be removed.

5) All books count: children’s, YA, adults, fiction, non-fiction, how-tos, etc.

6) If you have any questions, feel free to ask below or email me at jkayesbookblog@yahoo.com. Comments usually get a quicker response.

***Update: You do not have to decided on your books ahead of time. You can add or subtract from your list during the year.

ITs a lofty goal but dang it I'm going to try. I think I posted all the links in my writing account need to go back and change that to my reading one. Sorry!

Virginia Lady said...

Okay, I think I did this right. Sounds like fun and a good way to keep track of what I've read.

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Pretty Me!! ~ Glad to have you signed up with the Yahoo Groups too!

Sarai ~ Glad to see that lofty isn't slowing you down. It's never stopped me either...lol!

Virginia Lady ~ Welcome! Great to have you join. :)

Joinging the challenge today. I know I read a lot, and this will be a way for me to keep track of how many books I do read.

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Chele ~ I just came from your blog. I LOVE IT!

Sherri said...

It is wonderful to see all the serious readers! This should be great fun.

Kerry said...

Sherri - I don't know if we're the serious readers or the insane ones, but I agree this should be fun.

Kayla said...

Hopefully i will be able to actually finish it this time.

southernsassygirl said...

I'm so happy that I came across your blog, and I cannot wait to get started! :o)

rimasbookjournal said...

I hope to complete this challenge which is among one of my first challenges ever! My first post into Mr. Linky I messed up by linking to my blog, but I fixed it. Now I don't know how to remove the first one?

Much more excited about this challenge than the usual "lose weight this year" challenge!

OK, I'm in.

erin sheely said...

Superfun. I can't wait to get started.

erin sheely said...

Sorry about the double post...

lorisreadingcorner said...

I'm in :) I've posted about it on my blog. I read about 200 this year, so it shouldn't be too hard for me to do this. I do enjoy seeing what others are reading though :)

At the end of each month I'll go back and update my post with the books I've read for that month.

I put your cool picture on my blog so clicking it will go directly to that post :)

Happy reading!

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Sherri ~ There are even people joining who aren't sure they can make it. That's what I did and eventually I reached it.

Kerry ~ How about seriously insane? (lol)

Kayla ~ I'll be here cheering you all own.

southernsassygirl ~ Me either. I plan to spend all day on the 1st reading. :)

rimasbookjournal ~ Don't worry about Mr. Linky. I can delete it. I am so glad this is going to be the year of challenges for you. I've gone all out this year...lol!

Kelly ~ Books are the best part of any diet. :)

Rose City Reader ~ Yippee!

erin sheely ~ Me too! And don't worry about the double post.

lorisreadingcorner ~ I set my goal on 200 books in 2008 and fell short by a few. With all the challenges, if completed, I just might do it in 2009.

paragon2pieces said...

Looking forward to joining you all in the challenge!

Alaine said...

I added the URL to my reading blog before I'd done the post. Sorry! If you remove it I can redo it when I've done my post. Thanks!

Darth Nemoyer said...

You have me hooked. This is a marvelous challenge, and I can't let such mock nemeses as Ethan/Stormfield and NOT Freddy have all the fun. So, only thirteen days later than aforementioned counterparts (huh, 13, my lucky number), I am on your list.

:D

tobinsguide said...

And here we go :)

gaijinmama said...

My link is dead for some reason (156 on Mr. Linky) I've signed up again with the link to my blog (it's 234 on Mr. L above). Could you please delete the old one?

Jeff said...

Don't know if I can actually make it, but I'm sure going to try!

J. Kaye Oldner said...

paragon2pieces, Alaine, tobinsguide, Jeff ~ Welcome to the challenge! This is going to be an awesome year for them too.

Darth Nemoyer ~ No you cannot! That's the spirit.

gaijinmama ~ Read the instructions and pay close attention to #5. You will need to make a page about this challenge and please prove a link back. If you just list your website, your link will be removed.

Cindy said...

Hi J Kaye I hope i did it properly. I managed to read about 50 books in 2008 and I set my goal for 100 for 2009. Happy New Year

I just finished my 100 book challenge for 2008, and I put my statistics up this morning at:

http://wildpeculiarjoy.blogspot.com/2009/01/100-book-challenge-results-show.html

I mentioned your challenge at the end because I wanted more people to try this challenge - I had so much fun doing it and I am sure others will, too.

Good luck!

Reading Diva said...

Just started a new blog and will be taking the challenge. I'm very excited to be reading 109 books in 2009!

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Cindy ~ You did perfect! Welcome to the challenge. I really loved your blog!

Gabby ~ Wonderful! So glad you are joining in.

gaijinmama ~ No problem. I was hoping that step wasn't confusing people. I have a bad habit of not being direct enough.

Trevas Walker ~ Welcome!

bestbookihavenotread ~ This is going to be fun, isn't it?

Sunnysmileqt ~ I am so honored. Thank you!

Jo ~ That is awesome! Way to go!!

Reading Diva ~ I think I have already been by to visit. I think it's great you are new to the blogging world. Just beginning is the best!

I messed up the first time and am now posting the challenge list on a different blog. Can you delete "#94 Colleen"? Thanks! My new one, Colleen W, is the correct one.

I'm excited about the challenge! I already finished 1 book and am midway through another one. Off to a good start!

Thanks for organizing this!

J. Kaye Oldner said...

ScrapperGalJen and naida ~ Welcome to this challenge!

Teddyree ~ Oh yes, but I think things will settle down in a month. :)

Lisalit ~ Yippee! It feels so good, doesn't it?

Colleen ~ I have it updated. Thanks for letting me know! :)

Vick said...

I knocked out 122 last year, so I'm definitely in again!

Luanne said...

Hi J. Kaye - late to the party but wanting to join in. I'll head back and add my Mr. Linky. question for you - I do occassionaly 'read' audio books. Do they count for this challenge or no?

Margot said...

I know I'm a little late but I'm in for the challenge. Thanks for sponsoring the challenge.

Serendipity said...

I changed blogs so I was wondering if it's possible for my new link to be added to Mr Linky or should I add it again? I'm Serendipity which I believe is #102. Thanks.

Callista said...

I was sure I'd already joined this one but apparently not. The link in mr. linky is to my post stating my intention to do this challenge which is on my new challenge blog. But my reviews will go on my main blog at smsbookreviews.blogspot.com

wisteria said...

Hey J.Kaye....Gotta do it. I signed up on Library Thing last year. I'll do yours this year.
Happy New Year. 100 will be a stretch with Grad school....but I'm up for the challenge. :-)

Rasberryswrlgirl said...

I try for this every year - but it will be fun to have others involved.

Ms Alex said...

Please count me in!

mendielou said...

Ok, so I'm new to this blogging, and I'm a little confused about how to post the Mr. Linky to just the list like you say in the rules. I think I probably have my blog linked? Help??!??

Also, how can I add blogs that I would like to "watch" so I can see the progress of certain folks?

Thanks for your patience and advice!! =)

Kay said...

Oooops.

I seem to have mis-entered a link :( :( (I thought it was the page with the book reviews Mr. Linky)

I hope you can delete it somehow :(

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Vick, Margot, Rasberryswrlgirl, Ms Alex ~ Welcome to the challenge!

Luanne ~ Yes, audios do count...everything that is a book counts.

Serendipity ~ 102 is deleted. You can start all over, but don't be surprised if I come by with another welcome. ;)

Callista ~ You signed up for the Yahoo Groups. That much I know for sure. The rest...no clue. Glad you are signed either back up or for the first time. :) Mr Linky has had issues. But so far, I wasn't aware we'd lost one.

wisteria ~ Welcome! Link your page under Mr. Linky, not your blog's URL.

mendielou ~ Do you already have your post up on your blog? If so, I can correct this for you. No biggie. Welcome to the challenge!

Kay ~ No problem. I removed the link. :) I need books like that one! ;)

Rasberryswrlgirl said...

Since you like challenges, might I suggest another one that I have been working on. It's the 1001 books to read before you die list. This fellow here http://johnandsheena.co.uk/books/?page_id=160 has put it all in a nifty spreadsheet and as there are two versions of the list 2006 and 2008, he has made a page in the spreadsheet with just the changes. I'm having fun with it so far and thought you might like it.

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Rasberryswrlgirl ~ I think I am up to 33 reading challenge for 2009. That's enough, don't ya think? (lol)

Aisha said...

Now I really want to do this, after seeing how many others are doing. Here's hoping!!

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Aisha ~ Sure you can do it! We'll be rooting for ya!

Sheri said...

Question: Where do we post our book review links for the 100+ Challenge?
The link on the left of the page doesn't seems to be working.

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Sheri ~ I just sent this by email, but wanted to post it here if anyone is having the same problem.

Left of the page? This is for the 100+ Reading Challenge, correct? If so, it should be on your right, in the sidebar. Look under the photo of the 100+ Reading Challenge. See where it says Sign Up and then Post Your Reviews? Click January and a page will come up to post your January reviews. If I am not making sense, then here is the direct link: http://j-kaye-book-blog.blogspot.com/2008/12/2009-100-reading-challenge-post-your.html

bibliophile23 said...

I will also be joining this challenge. It seems like quite an undertaking but I'll do my best.

http://bibliophile23.wordpress.com/2009/01/06/the-2009-100-reading-challenge/

sheri said...

I'm in, as well. I'll be posting my books on a page in my blog, however, rather than a post. Is that ok?

sheri said...

J.Kaye: I'm in, however I want to list my books read on a page, not a post. I don't want to get kicked out of Mr Linky. How do I do that?

J. Kaye Oldner said...

bibliophile23 ~ The first year it really does seem like a big deal. Once you have done it a couple of years, it won't. Or that's how it has been for me. Now I am trying to reach higher goals. ;)

sheri ~ Place the challenge button/photo/picture in your sidebar. That's what some are doing as well.

Monique said...

I have read 100+ books a years several times and would like to do so again. Now that I've finished library school perhaps I'll have the time.

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Monique ~ Welcome! Glad you are joining in the fun!

Thanks!!

Becky said...

I have just joined the challenge and can't wait to get started. I have just moved so this will be a great way to learn all about my new library as well as catch up on all the books I have been meaning to read on my shelves :)

J. Kaye Oldner said...

Wisewebwoman ~ My TV was out the door in 2008.

Becky ~ That was my plan. I want to see naked shelves at the end of this year...lol!

Eliza Osborn said...

I made it to 75 last year when I was aiming for 50. Here's hoping I'll be able to do it! I'm judging a fic competition, so I can't list some of the books I'll be reading until next year, though.

OK - I'm signing up for my first challenge - decided to go big! :) I tried to figure out how many books I read last year, and I'm thinking it's in the 140 - 150 range - but I could be way off. With this challenge though, I'll have extra motivation to keep track for 2009. Thanks!

Ok, just added a page to my website about the challenge - I don't actually have a blog, so I'll have to mess around with the content of the page a little. I have a book blog, but don't post all that I've read there. I was originally going to try and read 75 books this year (on my own), but now that I see you have a challenge, why not go for 100?

Hello, I decided to do 100 books in 2009, sometime in December'08. Stumbled upon your blog, and figured I should sign up. Thanks for hosting this, and wish me luck! :)

Have just joined in the challenge! I've always wondered how many books I read in a calendar year...now I'll know! Cheers JK.

I just joined the challenge :)

Count me amongst those that have never kept track of the number of books read in a year. Although I am delayed in starting, I have plans for many weekends to do nothing but sit by pool and read!

Dawn said...

hey sorry i accidentally added the link to my page and not the post

J. Kaye said...

Dawn ~ Right now Mr. Linky is having technical issues. As soon as it's working again, you can add your correct information.

Can the same book be used for more than one challenge?

J. Kaye said...

D a n n i D i n o - a book can definitely be used for more than one challenge. That's the only way I could complete some of these challenges! :)

D a n n i D i n o said...

alright awesome!! another question though.. can you put book that you have read before you signed up but were in 2009 because i read three books last week but didn't sign up till yesterday?

Sorry J Kaye, put my review in the wrong place.

J. Kaye said...

D a n n i D i n o ~ All books read in 2009 count. It doesn't matter when you signed up. :)

J. Kaye said...

Alaine - Queen of Happy Endings ~ I have it deleted! Thanks for letting me know. :)

I am new to the blog world and just found your blog; I have signed up. Its my first challenge actually :) Though I am starting late in the year, I hope to complete it.Looking forward to interacting with all of you :).

Hi,

I am new to this, came here via a link on Ravelry.

I have read 100 books last year and listened to another 100, so my question is whether audiobooks count, too?

My list shall be posted on my blog at the end of the year/early next year, but a current list can be found on Ravelry (book challenge group). Or do I need to make the list more available to everybody? I could post and update it on my old blog.

J. Kaye said...

Zeal ~ Glad to have you!

SaRi ~ All books count, even audios. If you plan on entering the giveaway at the end, you'll need to make your list public. You won't need to do this until the end of the challenge.

Alexia561 said...

Looking forward to the challenge! Thanks for making this happen!

J. Kaye said...

Alexia561 ~ I tried to leave a comment on you blog, but it wouldn't let me.

Thanks for letting me know! Should be working now...

I can't wait to do this challenge. I really thought I had read more books this year...

I've literally only made my blog about 5 minutes ago and I have been thrust into a whole new world where I have no idea what to do. I would love to join the challenge but I am completely unsure how to (call me stupid but I can't understand the instructions) I would be grateful if you could explain it to a level my dim brain could understand.

Kl blog, Love your homepage.

J. Kaye said...

LV Books =) - Unfortunately, the Mr. Linky Widget you need to sign up with is having serious technical issues. When that is up and running, you can sign up with that.

You'll also need to publish/create a blog post on your blog with a link back to this page.

Welcome to the wonderful word of Blogging! :)

Sandra Stiles said...

I am so ready for this. I was already keeping a log of the books I have been reading since the beginning of the year. May I go back and add those in or do I need to start from where I have registered. Not a problem either way as I brought 125 home to read this summer while out of school.

J. Kaye said...

Sandra Stiles ~ Mr. Linky widgets are back up again, so you can sign up. Sorry this service is having such issues!

LV Books =) said...

Yay thank you for the reply, I was wondering how I was able to sign up and I had no idea what Mr Linky was but I just thought I was being stupid. I don't know if i will reach the target but i'll have fun trying :)

Sorry I didn't read through all the comments, but is there a way we can put a button on our sidebar?

J. Kaye said...

Emily ~ Yes, you can add it as a button. Please include a link back to this page so that others can find their way here too. :)

J. Kaye said...

Emily ~ I didn't mean to say button. I meant to say you can add it as a picture to your right sidebar. Sorry about that!

Trisha said...

Well, since we are halfway through the year, it seems strange to sign up now, but hey...why not!?!?!

Kim said...

I'm new to this , where do you post your book list and how do post the link?
thanks

J. Kaye said...

Kim ~ Do you have a blog?

jedi145 said...

I do now, i'm not sure if I signed up for the challenge correctly

Kim (jedi145) said...

here's the URL

J. Kaye said...

Kim (jedi145) ~ I corrected the URL making it a direct link to your list of books.

So sorry for linking to the blog instead of a post. I kind of glossed over the instructions and rules. Bad me. I have a tendency to rush and not look at instructions. (I hope to never play a game like Jumangi.) Not too sure how to edit in the Mr. Linky, or even if I can, but this is the link to the post.

Thanks and once again, my apologies,
Alex

J. Kaye said...

a flight of minds ~ Sadly, so do I! The link has been added. :)
