I joining yet another challenge of yours. I think I have pretty good reasons for joining this one. =)
Alea ~ Mr. Linky is there and your URL/Name is posted. There has been some technical difficulty over the past few days and the thing has disappeared on us.
~Kylee in CT ~ I am so glad you are!
Yeah I just checked again and saw it was back! J. Kaye, seriously best challenge ever!
Alea ~ I agree. I dearly love YA and want to read more in 2009.
wow, great idea for a challenge. yep, probably join this one too.
I've got Inkheart on my TBR list right now. And want to finish up the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants series.
http://thebookworm07.blogspot.com/
Naida ~ I have Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr that just arrived. It won't make it for next year's read. I want to read it now!
Great idea for a challenge. Thanks for hosting.
You have a wonderful idea for a challenge. I'm going to participate. I love YA and this will definitely provide a dent on my TBR mountain. ^_^
I have so many challenges already, but this one will be easy!:)
Do we have to list books in advance, or can we just make a list of what we've read as we go along? The "you can post your list at any time" part of the rule has confused me a bit.
I'm not keen on making lists in advance, but I'm happy to put "read YA and make a list" into my reading goals.
Kerry ~ You may select books as you go. Even if you list them now, you can change the list if needed.
Whitney ~ Glad you are pleased! I can't take credit though. This was Joy's idea.
Grain de Beaute ~ I have more this coming year than in 2008. :)
chan ~ Me too, but that hasn't stopped me yet.
Whitney ~ You are more than welcome, but I can't take the credit. Joy at Thoughts of Joy came up with this. I just offered to take over now that she isn't hosting challenges in 2009. I plan on setting up my sidebar very similar to how she had hers. That will be what I do during the Christmas holidays.
Grain de Beaute ~ That would be thanks to Joy. She has been the Queen of Book Challenges!
chan ~ That's exactly how I look at it. :) I read more than 12 YA in a year's time.
I've joined this one.
I just joined, its the first challenge that I'm joining of yours.
I just joined another challenge of yours!
Jessalina, Zoealea, Debbie ~ Welcome to this challenge. I really love YA fiction. I already have my list of books to read.
Hi J. Kaye,
I'm back for more of your challenges. You seem to have some of favorite books challenges going, so have to join in. Take Care!!
Sherrie
P.S. I have posted my list, you can see it here:
JUST BOOKS: YOUNG ADULT BOOK CHALLENGE
splummer ~ I am really glad you are joining this challenge. I love YA fiction!
Just joined! I'm really looking forward to this one.
This one I am not to sure of, but we will see. Lindy
Just joined. Thanks for a great challenge.
J.C. ~ Me too! I already have a list started.
Grilsgood ~ Well, if you don't love YA, then this isn't for you. ;) But that's okay. There are gobs of book challenges out there.
Corwink ~ Thoughts of Joy gets all the credit. She thought it up first!
Sounds like fun! I'm in :)
I love this idea! I'm in!
I read tons of YA anyway, so I'm definitely in. :)
I am most definitely crazy :-)
I just joined this challenge too!
Its my first challenge so I hope I do okay!
Yet another challenge I am joining. Thank you for hosting these and supporting my obsession with reading lol
Hey, I'm joining this challenge of yours too! I linked in with my specific post, and I'll be posting my reviews on 5-Squared.
I'm curious - how should we define YA fiction? I've got several on my list that are sort of borderline between YA and juvenile fiction (The Lightning Thief, for instance, or some of Lois Lowry's books). Is there a list somewhere to pull from? Or should we avoid anything that could be classified as younger than YA?
Seems like a lot of books I'm interested in lately are YA so this should be fun.
Joining in on this one too! Should be fun and easy(I hope!)
StarSpry ~ Sorry it's taken me so long to get back with new participates. Running too behind!
Katherine ~ I do too. Joy came up with some awesome challenges.
jessi ~ I do too, but this way I can keep track of exactly how many.
Veens ~ Love YA too!
Lexie ~ Yeah! Welcome!!
Kisha ~ I am like you are as well. There isn't a thing as too many challenges...at least not in my mind.
Amanda ~ Wikipedia says YA is fiction written for, published for, or marketed to adolescents, roughly between the ages of 12 and 18.
I do see what you mean. Some are in that range that could go either way. I'd say if the main character is 12 or older, it's YA. Technically, that's for middle grade, but Rick Riordan should be listed as YA. (Just my opinion...lol!)
debbiesworld ~ Me too! And I didn't realized how many until this year.
cafeshree ~ I think so too. I already have a few titles!
I got my post up, I can't wait to dig into the some 2009 releases for this challenge, there are so many good YA titles coming out soon :)
I picked my books and I am ready!! Do I really have to wait until Jan. 1??? :)
Joanne ~ I still have some review books hanging over my head. I will try my best to get out from under the 1st. I am taking off for two weeks in order to get 'em done!
Lisalit ~ LOLOL! Yes, you have to wait until the 1st. I wonder how many will start at 12:00 midnight. :)
I'm going to try it again this year! Let's hope I do better at saying no to review books and yes to books I already own!
Kris ~ I feel the same way! I am going to focus on just the challenges this year. ;)
Yay!! I can't wait!!
Hi J. Kaye,
I was wondering if you could re-point Mr. Linky to my new blog post about this challenge rather than my old one. I am changing blogs. Here is the link to my new post about this challenge. http://readingandruminations.wordpress.com/2008/12/12/2009-ya-challenge/
Thanks so much!
Shauna- Reading and Ruminations
Kristina ~ Me either! :)
Shauna- Reading and Ruminations ~ Done! :)
I've taken the plunge. I've joined. I'm pretty sure I can manage 12 YA books next year. There are so many good ones coming out.
Kerry ~ I agree. I might even go over this number. :)
I'm in most of your challenges, you come up with the best!! thanx :)
DeSeRt RoSe ~ I can't claim this one. It was Thoughts of Joy who originally thought it up. :)
Hoping to get my teen to read more by doing this challenge!
I absolutely love YA, and can't wait to get started! I have a John Green book I was going to begin last night, but decided to save it for the challenge. Can't wait!
Sounds like fun!
Excellent, now I just have to choose a book for every month. Hmmmm....
Thanks J. Kaye, another reason to read YA ;)
Kristi ~ Around here, it's me that needs to read more. My kids do well, but I won't get off the blasted internet!
writemeg ~ Yippee! I don't know which book to start with. I have sooooooo many!
emmegailsbookshelf ~ It is and I am so glad you are joining.
CharlieRhiann ~ Which is first is my problem.
Lissa ~ I know. I have an excess to read more...lol!
I'm joining this challenge too! I'm planning on reading all the DCF nominees so I'm feeling good about this challenge. :-)
Nan ~ Welcome! Can you believe I have close to 12 books listed already?
I accidentally signed up twice! Once I clicked enter before putting in my URL. So sorry!
This is the first YA Challenge I've participated in and I'm looking foward to it!!
I'm planning on joining a bunch of your challenges J. Kaye. Hopefully it will help me organize and take a big bite out of my TBR pile. :)
Awesome I just bought a bunch of YA and am devouring 'Nick and Norah' at the moment.
Andrea ~ No problem. I can fix it.
Readingrat ~ That's what I thought, but it looks like all it's doing is encouraging me to add more books...lol!
Jodie ~ Oh wow! Sounds awesome!
This sounds like another fantastic challenge so count me in!
Question... can you join a challenge twice? Hehe!
I love YA books so this will be an easy challenge for me. Thanks for offering it!
Rowena ~ I am a lover of YA too. :)
Alea ~ LOL! I have a feeling I will be listing more than just 12 as well.
Allison ~ Welcome to the challenge!
If I'm feeling confident maybe I'll add some more (once I've finished a good amount!)
Please count me in.
Last one I think! Love Young Adult Novels!
I'm in! Do we have to join the yahoogroup and post our reviews there? Will there be another place to link to reviews?
Alea ~ Next year, I am adding levels like I did for the Support Your Library Challenge. I can see now that many could have easily done 25 and 50.
SueFitz ~ Yeah!
chan ~ Me too!
Ali ~ You can join Yahoo Groups and post your reviews there. That's optional. I will have a Mr. Linky set up for all the challenges so that you can post a link to your review.
I plan on doing both, which is also optional.
Awesome. I'm feeling yahoo-group overload at the moment, so for now I'll just use the Mr. Linky. Thanks!
How does everyone feel about considering Harry Potter YA? I think the first few are a little iffy, but the last few are more clearly YA. According to Scholastic, the reading age is 9-12 for the first two.
Ali ~ Oh, then don't join. It's definitely optional.
nomadreader ~ When it comes to things like this, I leave it up to the participating member. There are too many books that fall into that middle category. In your shoes, I'd include it.
Nomareader, The YALSA (young adult library services association) lists the top 10 books for each year, and the HP books are consistently right up there in the top one or two as voted on by teens. I'd call it a crossover middle grade-YA book.
I'm looking forward to this one! I've already got more than half of them lined up ;o)
Alright, ya got me... I was going to try and simplify my life next year but I can't resist. I think some of these challenges will actually be overlappable for me, and also help me get back to some books that I might not get to otherwise. Now off to sign up for a few more... darn you anyway J. Kaye! lol!
My favorite kind of reading. This one will be a snap!
Great idea. It will be my favorite challenge that I'm looking forward to. :D
Hi! Great idea :) Now I just have to come up with books for my list!
LisaMae and anyone else looking for books for this challenge: I just posted a list of YA suggestions on my Diversity Rocks challenge site. Whether or not you're doing the Diversity challenge, there are some great recommended titles there.
Hi J. Kaye:
Thanks for hosting another great challene. I am going to list the books as I complete them since my daughter will be helping me choose books. Here is my link:
http://bookpsmith.blogspot.com/2008/12/young-adult-challenge-2009.html
Dorraine ~ Yeah! Me too. This one will be an easy to do challenge.
shaunesay ~ I love when challenges overlap! ;)
Angie ~ Awesome! Glad you are joining in.
litmuse & LisaMay ~ Not mine. I am taking over for Thoughts of Joy. This brilliant challenge was her idea.
Ali ~ Thank for the list!
BookPsmith ~ I really wish my daughter would join in with me.
This looks like it will be fun. Thanks for hosting the challenge!
Another fun challenge! Thanks for hosting.
I'm a huge fan of young adult fiction so I couldn't pass this one up:)
http://marybeth494.blogspot.com/2008/12/2009-reading-challenges_5606.html
Yeah!!! I really like this challenge. I cannot wait to dig into it and start reading. My pile is all set and ready to go.
For some reason my URL didn't show up, but I'm definitely participating this year. And starting very soon now! Yay!
Megan @ write meg!
Hurray! I'm sooo excited.
Mrs. V, Pam, Mary Beth, DarlingDiva ~ Welcome to the challenge. I dearly love YA, so this will be super fun.
writemeg ~ Did you just link your blog or did you link it to your post announcing this challenge. If so, the link was removed. Go back over the instructions. If you wish to list in the right sidebar, then use the button with a link to the challenge. That way you'll help in spreading the word about this challenge! :)
erin sheely ~ Me too. What's going to be your first book?
just signed up, thanks!!
Count me in!
Great idea. Sounds like fun. I'm just about to start Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston as my first YA title of the year.
Karla ~ It's just a matter of time before we turn you into a book challenge junkie. ;)
Smokey ~ Wonderful!
Bookgeek ~ There will be another YA challenge for the participants who finish this challenge. :)
hello! thanks for letting me, uh, join. yea. i can't wait! this is gonna be so much fun. i already have a bunch of books i wanna read this year. happy january first to you!
Great challenge for me. THere are a lot of YA books I want to read this year.
I am looking forward to taking part in this challenge. I am new to blogging,so may make some mistakes. I have finished reading my first one - Inkheart- Cornelia Funke - it was fab!
yay I'm excited! this should be fun =)
elizabeth tess, mari, Scrap girl, Mitzy ~ Welcome to this reading challenge! So glad you are joining.
Scrap girl ~ Feel free to email me and I'll assist any way I can.
I changed where my lists are kept. Can you delete number 25?
I just signed up. Thanks for hosting! :D
This one should be easy. I'm reading all the Christopher Pike books on my shelf so I can pass them along. There are way more than 12
Callista ~ All deleted. Thanks for letting me know! :)
*claire* & Rasberryswrlgirl ~ Welcome to the challenge!
I came here via Crazy Book Slut. This challenge should be easy for me, as I have all 7 HP books and all 4 Twilight books. HAHA
I'm also going to try and get through the Narnia books for this one, too.
Jaime @ Just Add Laughter ~ Great! So glad you are joining!!
And just when I thought I had decided on all the challenges, another good one comes up. :D
Consider me all signed up (1 book down, 11 to go). LOL
I discovered YA this time last year and now you can't keep me away!
I want to participate, but I don't know how to put a link to particular post on blogger - you said if it's just my URL it will get deleted, so what do I need to add to the end? It's a blogger.com account.
Thanks for the help - I see what I was doing wrong now! I hope to get some of my students to join, too :)
Much appreciated!
I didnt' see my name, but I had it listed that I was in. Lindy/CT
Mrs. F-B's Books Blog ~ That sounds wonderful!
Grilsgood ~ I don't remember you signing up for this one either. I promise I am not removing it if you did.
Lindy! You are there. Look at # 29.
THANK YOU for doing this!! I had SO MUCH fun last year. Wahoo!
Great idea! I'm looking forward to it!
Hi J. Kaye!
I just joined your YA Reading Challenge. I already have about half the books on my list on the shelf... the others I'm highly anticipating or waiting to borrow from the library. I'm doing a few other Challenges this year, so I hope I can keep up! Oh well, I'll have fun trying! :)
Happy Reading, everyone!
I'd like to join! So fun!
Thanks for hosting this one, J. Kaye!
Here's the correct comment:
Corinne & Michele at Reader's Respite ~ Any time!
Colleen ~ This was thought up by Thoughts of Joy. I am just taking over for her this year.
Christine ~ Have you considered joining the Support Your Library Challenge? Or have you already signed up?
Julie ~ Welcome!
Hi J. Kaye!
I'm participating this YA Book Challenge and I don't know where Mr. Linky...but here's my list.
van Girl ~ No worries. I've added your name and link under Mr. Linky. Welcome to the challenge!
Sheesh...I can't believe I forgot to sign up for this one until now! Better late than never. Thanks for hosting this one, J.Kaye!
Debi ~ I think next year I will have it in degrees like with the Support Your Library Challenge. This is too low of an amount for some.
I am having trouble signing up...I can't find the right place to click on, and it keeps bringing me back to the guidelines...please help :)
Again Im just making this official now I have a blog.
MssJos ~ It's because Mr. Linky was updating their site and the box was removed for a couple of days. It's back up!
Caspette ~ Great! Is your name listed twice? If so I'll remove the first if you can give me your # and name.
Ok, so I THINK I'm joined. Mr. Linky played a Mr. Houdini after I pressed send. ;)
Shalyn Green ~ Mr. Linky just did some updates and this is one new development. You are signed up. I have no idea why it disappears when you do that. If you refresh your screen, you should be able to see it.
Welcome to the challenge!
Oops, I accidentally signed up with my blog link, please remove Melanie Sullivan from the list, but keep MssJos, that is the correct link. So sorry!
Just joined the YA Book Challenge :) So excited!
Jess
(Find the Time to Read)
Hi there. I'm not sure what bizarre series of link clicks brought me to your blog, but I'm glad it did! This looks like fun.
I think this is the first challenge i've signed up for! Think itll be great!
i am still having the same problem. all i see is a link to join the yahoo group for reading 100 books and not mr linky. hopefully just posting my url here will work. thanks!
http://californiameaghan.blogspot.com/2009/02/2009-young-adult-book-challenge.html
I'm in! Better late than never. Thanks for hosting - this will be fun!
What a fun and open challenge! Thanks, I'll join!
I finished the challenge!
-Senfaye :)
I've just started reviewing books and thought joining a challenge would keep me going & make some friends along the way :)
I need to read more YA books this year, anyway!
Sara
I love YA books too. I want to finish the Princess Diaries series. This is a good way to do it. There are more and more good YA books being published. I am so glad.
Now, I need to put the challenge on my homepage. Thanks for your help.
I can't wait to get home now - I wanna pick out the books I'm going to start with.
I might need to sign up again. The first time I just put my url. Now I understand better what to do, I hope.
I went to sign up and started listing the books I've already read. Wouldn't you know, I've already got 12! I think I'll go for 24 then. We'll start the new 12 now. :D
This is my first reading challenge, but I'm lovin' reading YA. I'll link some of my review and I have several that are coming up, lots of YA on my TBR list.
I just posted a review in the wrong place. Can you please delete it? Sorry about that.
Tantalize/Eternal, forgot to mention that!
Are audio books allowed for this challenge? Just have to check before I join in :-)
Ladybug ~ Yes, audio books are allowed! Love audios. :)
That is great, I have a couple that suits this challenge.
Tomorrow I will post my list and join in at Mr. Linky's ;)
After reading The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong and so many reviews by book lovers who love YA I decided to sign up for this challenge! Been thinking about it for a while. Well I'm off to research some of the great books I can read!
Alaine - Queen of Happy Endings ~ YA is one of my favorite genres!
I had to think a little to make up a list of 12 books(I won't let myself read just about vampires and magic ;)) but now I have joined in the challenge!
Ladybug ~ LOL! I like a little variety too. :)
I am loving the YA genre, have read quite a few already so can't wait to add some more recommendations to Mt TBR
I am about ready to start my YA challenge. I love YA books. They are just wonderful. Now I'm trying to finish up another challenge. Sometimes I feel like giving up, but I only have three or four more books to go.
tea ~ And remember, you still have plenty of time. :)
Hi Kaye,
I'm glad. Can't wait to start in on my YA books. I have three more books for one challenge. I had to read 13 books over a quarter's time.
I'm so glad I found this challenge! I read a LOT of YA Lit, so this will be fun!
Jess
This is my first challenge - and I LOVE YA books, so it is a perfect one for me!
Deckled Edges ~ glad to have ya!
Hi..I would like to join in ..I have a pile of YA books waiting.
Yea!!!! My favorite...YA books!
Sandra Stiles ~ Yes, YA is a favorite of mine too!
Hey, I just completed the YA Book Challenge. It was fun, thanks!
Here is my post.
yay! i like the challenge
Andrea ~ I might have already sent you an email in response to this. In case I didn't, there is a page to link your completed list. Be sure to add it to that page.
Liannet ~ So glad you are joining in!
I joined. Is it okay to post books you have already listed from other challenges??
trishalynn0708 ~ As long as you started reading the book in 2009, list away!
Can I still join , eventhough 90% of the books I read are YA ?
I love to read young adult books, so I am happy to join the challenge.
jedi145 ~ Yes, you can still join.
Donnalynny ~ Welcome to the challenge.
I am going to try make one blog for my Young Adult and Graphic Challenge. I'm running behind.
I'm going to try another challenge. I also have a start on this one so I hope I can finish this one too.
Becca ~ Like the other challenge, you can list books you've read in 2009.
tea ~ If you need help, I'll try my best to assist.
Kaye, thanks.
Do I have to read the book, or can I listen to the audiobook?
It's easier for me to get an audiobook, being an international blogger. Many of these awesome books aren't here yet! *cries*
Ella Press ~ Audio books count! :)
Kaye,
I just received this in my mail I thought you and the readers here might have an interest. Hope it's alright to put it here. You've always been a great help to me.
http://Teens.FreeBookFriday.com
tea ~ Thanks.
You're welcome!
Kaye, I did have your name on the list for the Humane Award. Then, I read on Google Reader that you had picked one up from someone else. I have forgotten her name. Not to cause any confusion I immediately removed your name from my list. Lolllll.:)
teakettle58@yahoo.com
tea ~ No problem. I'll remove it. If you look to the left sidebar, there is a button that says Blog Awards. You can click on that for the information.
Hi Kaye,
I hate for you to remove mine. I would love to be the reward you take. Now I feel sad. You are too sweet.
teakettle58@yahoo.com
Tea ~ No worries!
needed to rejoin!
I took the plunge and finally joined a challenge! Woohoo!
*Vanessa* (Book Soulmates)
Vanessa Book ♥ Soulmates ~ Awesome!
J. Kaye,
I think there are two "teas" here. My name is stuck down in Mister Linky for the YA challenge. I'm feeling a little bit confused and sad. I put all my reviews on one blog
http://youngadultbooks-tea.blogspot.com
I don't think that's the way you want it. Oh boy!
teakettle58@yahoo.com
Tea ~ It's because you have already signed up. This is the sign up page. You can't sign up twice. Here's the review page link: http://j-kaye-book-blog.blogspot.com/2008/12/2009-young-adult-book-challenge-post.html
I also think you are misunderstanding the instructions to post your review. You don't use your URL to your blog. In your case, that would be http://youngadultbooks-tea.blogspot.com/
Use the link to your review post. Example for the first part last by Angela Johnson: http://youngadultbooks-tea.blogspot.com/2009/08/first-part-last-by-angela-johnson.html
J. Kaye, thank. I'm printing out your instructions for help .
I have read many YA series this year but haven't yet put up reviews can I join this challenge now? or do I have to start reading the titles after I sign up..
Shweta ~ You can list all the YA titles you've read in 2009. And you don't have to review them if you don't want to.
I just found out about this contest...and i've already read so many YA novels this year.
I've never joined a challenge - this is a new adventure for me! :)
Rachel ~ That is so cool! Glad to have you joining in!
I know i'm a little late to be starting this challenge but I'm still excited.
Morgan ~ Feel free to list all the YA that you've read this year...if you like.
J. Kaye, I'm so close. I've decided to get back on my challenge. I have eleven books read. I might need to recount.
Is it alright if I read "Holes" for my last YA book? All libraries categorize books differently. This does seem like a teen book to me. But it won John Newberry Honor.
teakettle58atyahoodotcom
Tea, sure! I think HOLES will be perfect!
Thanks J. Kaye! I finished "Holes." Perfect book for teens.
I hope all twelve books are posted to Mister Linky. My blog shows twelve books. I just hope you see twelve books.
teakettle58@yahoo.com
Okay, so I'm gonna start this book challenge... I'm kinda excited! This should be fun, I'm gonna go read now.
Okay I just joined this one as well. I hope I can use some of the books I just read and reviewed within the month or two!
tea - I think so!
Nosilas - Welcome to this challenge!
Amy J - you can use all of the YA you've read in 2009!
SWEET, J Kaye saw my blog! Thanks for the compliment about the background, by the way! Challenges are kewl!
Okay, so I just finished this challange and it was awesome! I'm gonna join a heckalotta challenges next year to keep my reading up.
