Max Payne
Genres: Action/Adventure and Adaptation
Release Date: October 17, 2008
MPAA Rating: PG-13
My Rating:

Let’s start with the movie I was most excited to see. Take a look at the trailer. When you get to the action part, it will be clips from the best scenes. I take that back. It will be the only interesting scenes of the movie.
The movie is about Max Payne. He’s a rogue cop who is tracking down those responsible for the brutal murders of his wife and later his ex-partner. By the movie clip, I am thinking there is something paranormal to the film. It’s not. I also thought there’d be a lot of action. It wasn’t. It didn’t even warm up until midway through. The plot was paper thin and has been done so many times, that if there is no serious action, there is no good movie.
The only reason I gave it two stars is because I love Mark Wahlberg and Beau Bridges. Otherwise, it would have been a total zero.
The Lazarus Project
Genres: Thriller
Release Date: October 24, 2008
MPAA Rating: PG-13
My Rating:

Again, watch the trailer. Get the feeling it has some paranormal theme going for it? Well, it doesn’t. Drugs are behind all the mystery when this ex-con wakes up from his lethal injection in a small Oregon town. When he's told he was given a second chance by God, he begins to question whether he ever really died. I wish I’d known this ahead of time. I might not have been so disappointed.
That said, it’s not a bad movie even with the hard to swallow ending.
Invasion
Genres: Science Fiction/Fantasy
Release Date: August 17th, 2007
MPAA Rating: PG-13
My Rating:

This was a careful blend of past event - cash of the space shuttle and the movie, The Body Snatchers. What an awesome film. I basically knew the plot and didn’t care. It was an edge of your seat event. I had no idea who was going to live and who’d die until the very end. Rock on awesome!
Resident Evil - Extinction
Genres: Action/Adventure, Suspense/Horror
Release Date: September 21, 2007
MPAA Rating: R
My Rating:

Another movie I walked away pleased with. When I compare with the other two, this one isn’t as good. Even so, I loved it. In this sequel, Alice has been hiding in the Nevada desert, staying one step ahead of the zombies that have basically taken over the world. She once again joins forces with friends of the past in order to find a safe haven. Her enemy isn’t just the undead, but the Umbrella Corporation as well. The action in this move was so good, it left me with goose bumps. Also, the ending leaves plenty of room for the fourth in this series. I don’t think Resident Evil fans will be disappointed. I wasn’t.
Mini Movie Views is no longer a scheduled event. I tried, but I’m too inconsistent. So now it's an irregular event, posted whenever I get enough movies together in one post. The movies posted on the Mini Movie Views are ones I’ve purchased, rented from BlockBuster, or seen in theaters. (For promo companies who send me a movie to review, I do an On the Horizon post to spotlight the movie as well as a full review. Your movie won't be listed here.)

I'm not surprised that Max Payne isn't great. The majority of movies that are based on video games aren't. I will watch it though. I'm too much of a Marky Mark fan not to.
When my fiance and I watched RE:E I spent a lot of time with my sleeve on my eyes. I love the series, but some of the scenes are a bot much. Our first offical date was to see RE: Apocalypse.
I wasn't very impressed by Max Payne either. I just about fell asleep. It wasn't my choice, my husband picked that movie and even he was a little disappointed. People asked me what I thought of it and what it was about and I actually had to say "I don't really know" because I was just so .... I don't know about it!
Yup, Max Payne was terrible, it's pretty bad when watching the cut-scenes in a video game are more entertaining than the actual movie.
I really enjoyed RE Extinction, not as much as the first but much more than Apocalypse.
Hmm I may have to watch Invasion, I've been feeling snobbish about this because I was so worried it would rip off Body Snatchers too much (one of the best classic horror films imo)
Thanks for the cool mini-reviews :)
~Kylee in CT ~ I watch and love many of the movies made from games as well as comics. That's what was a total shame for me. I should have loved it, but didn't.
Tara ~ Isn't there a TV series about it now? Or did I misread the ad.
Book Zombie (Joanne) ~ It is a rip off, but I LOVED it! I felt exactly like you did and the only reason I watch it was because of Nicole Kidman. I am so glad I did. Even though is was a remake of sorts, I loved it.
Poor Mark Wahlberg - he hasn't had a very good year. The Happening was horrible, too.
I also loved Invasion!
I enjoyed resident evil and invasion too. I was going to watch Max Payne but my son said it was bad and you say it was bad so I take a pass on it!
Carrie K. ~ I didn't watch that one because too many friends said it was bad.
Icedream ~ I told my son to skip it. What a rip off. :(
great reviews. I went to see Max Payne and it wasnt so great. Mark Wahlberg was really good, but I didnt enjoy the film that much.
I've been wanting to see Invasion and I like the Resident Evil movies, I need to check out this latest one.
Glad to hear they were good.

Naida ~ Thanks for pointing that out. You are so dead on. Mark Wahlberg was his awesome self. It was the movie that was lacking.
