Steve’s Thoughts

Quantum Buddhism by François Lépine is an e-book based on the following premise:

“Buddhism (and neutral monists in western philosophy) believes that mind and matter both derive from a deeper-lying common entity. In recent decades it has become evident that quantum physics and quantum gravity can provide a scientifically plausible accommodation of the Buddhist (and neutral monist) approach.”

The purpose of the book:

“Quantum Buddhism aims at providing a set of tools to develop a scientific-spiritual approach to the world, unburdened by traditional cultural ritualistic and dogmatic weight, where development of the self prevails to become a conscious scientific instrument. Along reading this book, you will learn a good basis of theory and application of this technique on transcending the human senses to perceive the spiritual world.

These techniques are the first steps in understanding beyond the human intellectual interpretation of the world, and existing beyond the biological body.”

François Lépine is an ordained Pure Land Buddhist minister and the Buddhist examples and sutras reflect this background. However, the techniques are not specific to one flavor of Buddhism. The analogies are pretty religious neutral and more of a practical nature. You might see this from a non-religious self-help book or a layman’s book on quantum physics.

Overall, I found this book to be very interesting and the concepts presented very reasonable and logically put together. Lépine isn’t the only Buddhist priest to use science as a mirror on Buddhist thought. The Dalai Lama holds a special conference for scientist and priests to come together for a deeper understanding of the core concepts. After all, the Buddha said for us to “Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true. [paraphrased]”
