-----------

Books I completed this week are:

ONCE UPON A NIGHTMARE by Lee Moylan was a slow start for me. Not so slow I wanted to stop reading, but enough to make me wish things would pick up. You guys know how A.D.D. I am. It took about midway through before I was 100% invested in the book. This was a dark thriller with gruesome scenes - really good stuff. Gillian Flynn's book (below) could be labeled that as well, but this was visual where Flynn's was more psychological.

DARK PLACES by Gillian Flynn is probably the best thriller I've read this year. If you are into audio books, this would be the perfect one. Great narrator.

THE STRUGGLE (Book 2: The Vampire Diaries) by L. J. Smith - I'm hooked on this series. I look forward to book two.

THE INITIATION Book 1: The Secret Circle by L. J. Smith is probably as good as the rest of her other books, but I couldn't connect with story. I found it too slow compared to the Vampire Diaries.

So this week:

A CIRCLE OF SOULS by Preetham Grandhi is a psychological thriller.

SWOON by Nina Malkin is a paranormal YA.

THE FURY by L. J. Smith is book three of The Vampire Diaries. It's a YA paranormal that's sort of a love story as well.

JUMPED by Rita Williams-Garcia is another YA book.

You had a good week last week and sounds like some great YA coming up this week. Enjoy!

I've been wanting to read Swoon, I hope you enjoy it!

Have you finished the 100+ this year? If not you must be close. When I've finished my current 2 I will be on 90, which amazes me because last year I read 50. You have really inspired me to read a lot this year J. Kaye, with all your fantastic challenges.

I've heard good things about Swoon. Have a great week!

What? It's not Monday yet! ;)

Enjoy Swoon! I really liked it. I've been wanted to read Jumped.

I really liked A Circle of Souls. Although I thought the end could have used some work.

Chris said...

I'm reading Criss Cross (PsyCop, Book 2), which is excellent m/m romantic suspense by Jordan Castillo Price.

Mary said...

Swoon sounds like it should be good!

Last week, I read: My Name is Will, April and Oliver, The Reliable Wife. I've started Housecalls and Hitching Posts but I'm not very far into it yet...

Mel (He Followed Me Home) said...

I'm finishing up Lamb by Christopher Moore today then attempting Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke for the 3rd time (it's just so big, I get parway through and then get sidetracked!)

Looks like I need to add 'The Vampire Diaries' series to my 'to read' list :)

Alissa said...

I read a pleasantly eclectic mix of books last week with more of the same set for this week.

Mishel said...

I'll be reading Once Upon a Midnight soon too! I'm glad you stuck with it and ended up enjoying it =)

So glad your liking the Vampire Diaries so far. I've caught up with the older books but I need to start on the newly released ones. I haven't started the Secret Circle but I'm looking forward to seeing the differences between The Vampire Diaries.

Mishel said...

I meant Once Upon a Nightmare lol woops

You had a good week J.Kaye. I'd love to read A Circle of Souls one of these days. This week I'm working on The White Queen and about 4 or 5 others I've started along the way.

April said...

I'm excited to see you are reading L.J. Smith. I hope you enjoy her writing (I just bought her three Night World compilations!)

Sandra said...

I read Flynn's first book and thought it was chilling, so I definitely have to read Dark Places.

imbookingit said...

I'll look for DARK PLACES, I'm always happy for audiobook recommendations.

A CIRCLE OF SOULS sounds good but intense, I'm not sure if I want to read it or not, I'll keep my eye on the reviews.

bookmagic said...

I've got to get back to Dark Places, I'm half way through but then got distracted by others. I really need to stop doing that. I think I won't start A Circle of Souls until I finish Dark Places.

okbolover said...

what I'm reading this week:

The Other Queen - Philippa Gregory
The Warrior Heir - Cinda Williams Chima
The Godfather - Mario Puzo
The Wife's Tale - Lori Lansens

Those are the ones I'll be focusing on the most.

Another great reading week J Kaye!

I'm thinking of trying out "The Vampire Diaries"!

Lisa said...

I'm so late today! Spilled coffee all over my keyboard, had to go buy a new one today!! What a way to start the week!

elspeth said...

I'll start since I've been reading a lot! I just finished Friday Night Knitting Club. I liked it well enough, but thought the ending was kind of lame. Now I'm reading Pet Sematary.

alitareads said...

People keep talking about these Vampire Diaries, my interest is piqued! I think I need to look into this series.
I just finished Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella. For this week I'm looking at Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Hot Six by Janet Evanovich. Could I have found two book further apart on the Woman's Lit spectrum to read back to back? I really don't know.

MarthaE said...

Hi J. Kaye - I like how you summarized the ones you read! Good idea! Thanks. So I have a dark thriller coming - "gruesome...really good stuff." Why does that sound sort of warped?? LOL

I completed nothing :(
You had a great week!

Chrissy said...

I recently finished reading a book by Kathleen S. Wilson called Rumer & Qix. A futuristic sci-fi kinda book with a strong 16 year old protagonist named Rumer and her side kick Qix go on an amazing adventure like no other. Inside, you find out the future is set in an optimistic, hopeful light, with assurances that mankind can turn things around before its too late and kids have a big role to play in the process.

Alaine - Queen of Happy Endings ~ Yeah, I passed 100, but I was shooting for 200 this year. :)

J.T. Oldfield ~ Ugh! I know!

Lenore ~ I've read mixed reviews, but I am liking it.

Trin ~ I passed it on to Steve. I am not in the mood for it and he was running low on books. ;)

Mary ~ I am really hoping so.

Pam ~ You had a great week!

Sandra ~ Okay, if you read that one and thought it was chilling...this is even better. No joke...I flipped out over it.

alitareads ~ The good thing is you can get one book. It's really short. If you don't care for it, you didn't waste a whole lot of time.

MarthaE ~ I am going to start doing that. Writing a quick note on how I feel. And as far as warped? Hon, you know I wear that label proudly! (lol)

Veens ~ Yeah, but you have a good excuse!

Chrissy ~ Man, oh man, that does sound good!

Jess ~ I worked on a story idea last night and didn't read more...plan to read tonight...I hope!

Susan ~ Life is cutting into my reading time too. Next week might not be so profitable.

Debbie's World of Books ~ The Secret Circle isn't something I will continue with. It's not bad, but not my preference if that makes sense.

Bri Meets Books ~ Dark Places will probably go down as the best thriller I've read in 2009.

Park Avenue Princess ~ Hope you decide to join in one Monday...or two or...

LOL! I am trying to participate in my own little way. Everytime I try to use Mr. Linkie and link him to my own post. I don't know what happens. Something goes wrong. (psst...I think he hates me...) And it's NOT me, I've tried to be nice. I really have!

I do however LOVE this post! It's a wonderful idea~
