It's Monday! What are you reading? (August 17, 2009)

If you decide to participate in It's Monday! What are you reading?, be sure to post a link to this post on your blog. That way others can find their way here and join in the fun.

-----------

Books I completed this week are:

SWOON by Nina Malkin is listed as a YA paranormal. The casual sex and drugs, well, maybe that was added for realism. If so, then the author's flippant writing style defeated the purpose. I have very strong feelings after reading this book...it would make for a great discussion.

JUMPED by Rita Williams-Garcia is another YA book. Talk about being authentic and so real...great read.

So this week:

SWIMSUIT by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro is my audio book. This has gotten negative reviews. But so far, I am liking it. I'm not sure how I feel about this narrator though.

BONEMAN'S DAUGHTERS by Ted Dekker is another audio book I have on the list. This was a pick from Park Avenue Princess. Patterson's audio is so short, that I am sure to finish it today or tomorrow and then start on this one. I know it's gonna be good!

WORST NIGHTMARES by Shane Briant was also a top commenter pick, but it's paper. I started on that last night.

LUCKY IN LOVE by Carolyn Brown is also up this week. The book was sent to me by Sourcebooks. Publication date is September 1, 2009. I figure it will be a nice balance with the thrillers.

I've read swimsuit and while it's not my favorite Patterson, I still enjoyed it. I think I finished it in about two days. I hope you enjoy it.

Jumped sounds good, as does Lucky in Love. Have a great week!

Mary ~ Oh how I wish it was Mr. Linky's fault. (lol)

Mrs. Foltz ~ Awesome! So glad to have you!

Happy Reading!

I hope you aren't offended if I don't officially participate in this meme...I do a Movie one on Mondays! But I will comment, because as I stated, I am out to comment your head off and get on that list of yours! Right now, I am in the middle of a 48 disc audio book (yes that's right, 48) and a pretty darned boring book about Chinese food. Gotta put that one to rest so I can move on!

I'm really wanting to read Swoon.

Let's see....what I'm reading..well I finished a lot last week.

I suppose this week I'll focus on:

The Other Queen - Philippa Gregory
The Wife's Tale - Lori Lansens
The Lie - Frederica Wagman

among a million others. It's all about mood lately.

alitareads said...

Worst Nightmares sound creepy. I'm looking forward to your synopsis!

No post for me this week as I'm still working away at the same book as last week. Looks like I have a few days left with Miss Jane Eyre.

I'm not the only one who does one book at a time, right??

karen! said...

Are you going to write a full post on Swoon?

Chris said...

I'm working on the third Adrien English ebook by Josh Lanyon right now.

Park Avenue Princess said...

OK so I still didn't Mr. Linkie it! I'm just plain afraid of Mr. Linkie!

This week I finished, 113 by 13, Fatal Encryption, Seduc Me, and Thug Lovin'...I also reread Payback with ya' life (Just so I'd remember everything fresh)

This week I have a bit in queue, I'm going to try dreamer, Under This Unbroken Sky and BabyDoll...we'll see, I MAY change my mind!

Park Avenue Princess said...

Oh and I think just for luxury reading, not for review, I might start rereading the Clique series again...

I need to relax!

This book is SO goin in the bath with me!

J. Kaye said...

Tam @ Bailey's and Books ~ I'll be over in a bit...running late because of the Mr. Linky blooper.

Sandy Nawrot ~ No offended whatsoever! Some viewers just pop in and comment what they are reading.

Mishel ~ Love to get your opinion on it!

Andrea & A Buckeye Girl Reads ~ SWOON is that sort of book that you should decided for yourself whether or not you like it. Ya know?

gautami tripathy ~ Nah, I had a poor reading week for me.

Natalie W ~ Oh, I still have to write JUMPED.

okbolover ~ Oh Cracker Jacks! Philippa Gregory is an author I have on my list, but haven't had time to read yet.

alitareads ~ Worst Nightmares is AWESOME! (so far) And as far as one book at a time, it's all about enjoying our free time. When reading isn't fun anymore, why bother? So take your time. Have fun. Life is too short to treat it otherwise.

karen! ~ Already did. Posted the link to Amazon above and it will air on this blog sometime this week.

Chris ~ Going to look up Josh Lanyon.

Park Avenue Princess ~ Sounds like a great reading week.

I'm reading The Name Of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss! It's fantastic, a must read!

J. Kaye said...

Krista ~ I'm off to goggle "The Name Of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss.

Thanks!

Alaine - Queen of Happy Endings said...

Thanks J. Kaye for transferring my link!

J. Kaye said...

Alaine - Queen of Happy Endings ~ It was the least I could do after that blunder!

Teddyree said...

Put my link up :-)
Haven't heard of Jumped but I'm going to look it up on Goodreads. I've got Swimsuit on audio too, will wait on your thoughts before I rush in lol

J. Kaye said...

Teddyree ~ Personally, I am liking SWIMSUIT, but the narrator isn't the best of the best. There's too much acting if you know what I mean. And the way he imitates a female's voice - ack! Gives me chills thinking about it. Although others have criticized the book, I think it's okay, maybe not Patterson's best, but I am enjoying it. I am reading an intense thriller, so Patterson is a fluffy alternative.

Dar said...

Looks like you have some good stuff to get through this week J.Kaye. I still haven't read Swimsuit. I just finished The White Queen and it was good and this week I'll work on Time of my Life by Allison Winn Scotch and a few others I have on the go.

J. Kaye said...

Dar ~ I am in one of these really odd moods. I think it's because I am winding down from the 999 Challenges.

Rasberryswrlgirl said...

Can't wait to read your reviews.

J. Kaye said...

Rasberryswrlgirl ~ You know how to make a blogger feel good! Thank you!

Toni said...

You have a nice selection for this week. :) Enjoy.

MarthaE said...

Hi J. Kaye - Looks like you have had a few thrillers of late! Lucky in Love sounds like it might be fun.
I have to start preparing my list Sunday instead of waiting till Monday night! LOL

Teddyree said...

hmm thanks J.Kaye, I might wait to tackle that one,I have so many other awesome must-read books I like to know when I can nudge one down the list a little lol.
The narrator can make or break an audio can't they.

Park Avenue Princess said...

J.Kaye, I'm so glad to hear that you're liking "Swimsuit". I LOVE Patterson but I saw SO SO many bad reviews for this one. I know I should just judge for myself, but it's nice to know that someon I trust is giving it an OK review...

I think I'm going to add it!

Thanks again!
XOXO Amy (Park-Avenue Princess)

Park Avenue Princess said...

I was really looking forward to "Swoon" as well...

Hmmm Too bad. Now, I guess I can put it a little further down in the pile!

xoxo Amy (Park-Avenue Princess)

Park Avenue Princess said...

OH...I had to come back because I was cracking up when I read your post on the blog tour for "Thug Lovin" I actually have to ususally start at the beginning of a series too...so I got the others before the blog tour as well..

This book was a big disappointment compared to the other three.

Those I liked But the names ARE the best!

Not something I'd normally read, but, it was for a tour.

xoxo Amy (Park-Avenue Princess)

J. Kaye said...

Toni ~ WORST NIGHTMARES is the best!

MarthaE ~ I post this at 12:01 AM on Monday. Don't know if that will help.

Teddyree ~ I really feel immune to narrators most of the time. I feel that they can add, but not really subtract and then one like this comes along and makes a liar out of me.

Park Avenue Princess ~ You really shouldn't judge a book by another opinion. You might find you love SWOON just as I found I am enjoying SWIMSUIT. I've learned to make up my own mind by they description of the book. And usually if I can read a chapter or two, I'll know if I like the author's writing style.

Momma Hunt said...

This week I am reading Circle of Souls a review book and sadly since it is almost the start of the newest school year I am reading my new psychology textbook (blah). Needless to say, no reviews on that book

J. Kaye said...

Momma Hunt ~ I stopped by the link you have posted, but didn't see a meme post. It was only a link to your review.

Park Avenue Princess said...

It's very true, I shouldn't. And my English teacher told me that I should always give an author 100 pages at least! I usually do...

xoxo Amy (Park-Avenue Princess)

J. Kaye said...

Park Avenue Princess ~ Then your teacher would fail me for sure! I can't hang more than 25 pages. It's long enough for me to get the feel of the author's writing style. If I have heard super awesome things about the book, then maybe and that's maybe, I'll stay in there longer. I'm too ADD, so 25 pages is really generous for people like me.
