Sign Up Page: 2010 Reading Challenge: 100+ Reading Challenge

1. The goal is to read 100 or more books. Anyone can join. You don't need a blog to participate.

--Non-Bloggers: Post your list of books in the comment section of the wrap-up post. To learn how to sign up without having a blog, click here.

2. Audio, Re-reads, eBooks, YA, Manga, Graphic Novels, Library books, Novellas, Young Reader, Nonfiction – as long as the book has an ISBN or equivalent or can be purchased as such, the book counts.

What doesn't count: Individual short stories or individual books in the Bible.

3. No need to list your books in advance. You may select books as you go. Even if you list them now, you can change the list if needed.

4. Crossovers from other reading challenges count.

5. Challenge begins January 1st thru December, 2010. Books started before the 1st do not count.

6. When you sign up under Mr. Linky, put the direct link to your post where your books will be listed. Include the URL to this post so that other viewers can find this fun challenge. If you’d prefer to put your list in the sidebar of your blog, please leave your viewers the link to the sign up page. Again, so viewers can join the challenge too.

****You do NOT need to review your books. That is optional.****

Hi everyone,

I'm not quite sure how to sign up my blog for this. I don't see anything called mr linky on the page?

Hi J.Kaye,
It's perfectly clear now, thanks!

I didn't keep track of how many books I read last year, but I think it was around a hundred. It'll be interesting to see how I do this year. I should be able to make it. One down 99 to go.

Wow the response is incredible! Thanks J. Kaye for an awesome challenge and good luck to everyone.

Coolies!!! I've never actually counted how many books I read in a year so this is exciting.

Thankyou for posting this challenge!!!

Amanda-Lee said...

also is there a button for this comp?

Tammy said...

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to challenge myself. I was thinking 60 books but I really needed to set the bar a bit higher. 100 is perfect and I believe do able. Here we go!

Linda said...

Well, somehow, I did not manage to link this challenge to my blog post about it (I just ended up linking to my blog). Maybe the first book I need to read this year is a Dummies book on blogging LOL!

Thank you for your nice comment on my blog though. And maybe I'll figure out the linking to an individual post thing by the time my first book is ready to be listed ;-)

I'm back in again this one. This time I'll do it right.

I'm so excited to do this! I'm not sure if I can reach 100, but I'll have fun trying! Good luck everyone, happy reading!

Mirawyn said...

I was so glad to find this last year! I exceeded the minimum of 100, even with some extremely long (1000+ pages) books! Thanks J. Kaye for giving me the incentive to keep track of all of it!

I even reviewed about a dozen of the books at my LiveJournal, which was fun.

Good luck everyone!

Hello J. Kaye, I signed up with my correct URL, please delete "383. Wendy Fitch". Thanks so much!

Great Challenge!

Look forward to seeing what others are reading this year.

I feel like I'm already behind...gotta go read now!

Good luck everyone and happy reading!

Beth said...

Thanks for the detail on how to enter. Much appreciated as I have no blog and probably never will. Too busy reading, running my store and becoming a grandma this year will take even more of my time. But if I can count books that I read this year before I signed up, then book 2 will be done later today.
Exactly what is meant by "individual short stories"?
And, WOW, lot of people entered this challenge.

I am combining 3 contests into one but I think I can do it!!!! ;)

J. Kaye said...

Wendy Fitch - Glad I could help!

Kas - Sorry that it's taken me so long to respond. Did you ever get linked up?

ErotRomReader (Janna) - Awesome!

Amanda Leigh - and that's the exact reason I began this reading challenge. ;)

Natalie W - I know! I have just now finished with my commenting on blogs that had a post about this reading challenge and now I need to see if there are more questions to answer. :)

Amanda-Lee - the button is on this post. If you'd like me to shrink it down for you, I can do that.

Rachel, Loretta, Nicole, Sue Fitzgerald, Orchid, My last 20, pistitotol, naida, Mirawyn, & Tammy - So glad to have you join!

Linda - It's a bit confusing if you have never done this before. Even the ones who have make mistakes. If you need me to delete one, just tell me the # and I can do that.

Hearth-mother, Laura McIntyre, & Kristen howe - It took me three tries to make it. :)

Malinda - Sure you can!

Tiffany - Back at ya! :)

Wendy Fitch - Deleted! Thanks for letting me know.

Beth - and that's fine. You don't need a blog. You can join in the Monday meme to let us know how you are doing and/or the first Tuesday of month or just post a comment in the review post to let us know which titles you've completed.

Princess Aurora - That is exactly what I am doing this year. :)

lmaiangowi, Sue F., & Sherry @ Flipping Pages for All - Wow! I am honored.

Shaun Walton - You also might want to join us for the Monday Meme, It's Monday! What are you reading? It has really helped me to stay on track in 2009. I've read more books than in 2008.

Edna - I am sure you will. I am a granny reader and I made it.

chilkai - Did you delete it yourself? I am not seeing the incorrect one.

allthatglitters1 - Just tell me which # and Name to delete and I'll remove it for you.

Kylie said...

This is a huge challenge for me - hopefully I can pull it off! Looking forward to check out some other reading blogs!

Christine said...

Hi J. Kaye,
I signed up for this back in November (entry #6), but realized I linked incorrectly and should have entered the link to my book list. I did it correctly just now (entry #544). You can delete my earliest entry, if you like so I'm not a duplicate. Sorry about that.

I'll get it right the first time in 2011. I promise. ;)

Ok, I've signed up!! What a great challenge. I will make sure they are at least Chapter Books! LOL. I think I could reach 100 in a month if you counted the number of times I read Good Night Moon and Germs are not for sharing!

Thank you for inspiring me!!

PS. Where do most people keep track of all of their reads?

cathikin said...

Hmm...I know I signed up for this--you even sent a note to me welcoming me. I know from my blog that I was #237. But I can't find my name now, and I'm not exactly sure how to link up right. I was trying to figure out how to keep a running record of the books I read. I guess I'll try again, but I think I need help.

melissa @ 1lbr said...

I signed up again with a different link, one that is my list and the review links. You can delete the first sign up if you want.

J. Kaye said...

Kylie - It took me three tries before I made a 100, so don't get discouraged. Also feel free to join us on Mondays. It's a great weekly meme that has helped me to stay on track.

Christine - No problem. #6 is deleted.

CAG - I think a fourth aren't bloggers. I think the non-bloggers have a better chance of success. They waste less time blogging...lol.

Geochick - Awesome! Thrilled to have you.

Chrissiebear - Depends. Are you a blogger or non-blogger?

cathikin - You might want to check the 100+ Reading Challenge. You might have accidentally signed up there.

J. Kaye said...

cathikin - Oops...sorry, I meant the Support Your Local Library Reading Challenge. ;)

WOW! 556 signed up so far! That is just GREAT!!

Cool! I always claim that I read a whole lot of books, but I never keep track of them. This gives me a reason to keep track.

Manderiffic said...

I challenged myself to 50 books for the year, but I'm all for going to 100! I'm already at 6 books. I've been looking for somewhere to make myself accountable! YAY!

DCG and JAG said...

I hope I'm doing this all correctly. I'm still not sure I understand where to list my books or any comments I might make on them. I don't have a book blog, and don't really want to start one, but I may have to give in and do just that if I'm going to join all these challenges. I'd better get my list started though as I've read a few already and I don't want to forget what they were. Looking forward to this challenge.

Awesome!! Hopefully this challenge will get me back into reading more books as I've slowed down since beginning full-time work, I find my biggest struggle is actually remembering to record the books I've read.

Michelle (Red Headed Book Child) said...

I'm jumping on the ol' bandwagon too. I like this Challenge because I can read whatever I want and still plug away at my goal. I'm sticking to 100 to start. My goal may grow as the year goes on!
Thanks!

Buried In Print said...

I read 64 books last year, more than a book a week, which is thanks to a lengthy commute, and no thanks to the myriad of responsibilities that absorb hours that might, otherwise, be filled with books, books and more books; I would like to read “more”, overall, though. Basically I just want to make sure that my commutes are filled with more books and less staring-into-space and, so far, 2010's reads are stacking up nicely.

PensivePixie said...

I perhaps might be crazy to take on this challenge along with NaPloBoMo and the 365 photo challenge, but I love to read and I think 100 books is doable. Plus it's a good excuse to go back and read the classics that I haven't touched in a long time. :)

Okay, just wanted to say that Buried in books isn't stupid. I know I entered twice. Well, the stupid thing is debatable as I left out the dot after the www in my blog when I registered it and it leads to a dead link if you put it in. So when I signed up the first time, yes, I put the dot in after the www and checked it and guess where it led. Am I new to this blog thing you ask? Why yes I am. How did you know? Have to laugh. I did get the button my site so that's something right????

Woo! Finished! Will, of course, keep reading :) Part of a 250 bk challenge on LibraryThing. Not sure I'll make that one, but I'm trying.

Wow, this is cool, I'm probably really late, but I read a lot of books before the first :D

I'm a little late to the party but I'm looking forward to knowing how many books I manage to read in a year. Thanks to Shelfari I know where I stand so far...

Late entry but I'm on 38 books so far. I've been keeping check of what I'm reading anyway so this looks like fun. I am aiming for at least 100, but secretly hoping for more.

What a fun way to spend this year reading. I know I am late, but I'm quite positive that I can make the goal in time.

:)

This looks fun! I read 236 books last year, but I was in library school. I am trying to beat that so I look forward to this challenge!

I just signed up but better late than never right?

Shiloh said...

Signing up a bit late this year :) I'm setting a goal for 50 for 2010 as far as I'm keeping track here at least, I've probably already read 100 though so I'm okay with that :) Thanks for the great site!

I've started quite late, but I think I'll be able to do it.

Hello -- I just discovered this challenge and I am trying to sign up, but the link for non-bloggers is unavailable? Can anyone direct me to the right place? Thanks.

Crystal said...

Hi! Tha instant i saw the challenge i knew I was going to try! even if the year is almost finishing lol
I just have a problem
Do we have to put a link or something? because i don´t know how to post it in my blog :)

This is a great idea, I really believe people need to read more, and make time for it.

I was already doing this as a challenge for myself, it'll be fun to have company!

Kristi said...

Thanks for the Mr. Linky help! I'm still up for the challenge-I think I'm over 100 books already but I need to confirm with my Kindle and Amazon account!
Thanks again!

Kristi said...

Thanks so much for the help with Mr. Linky!
I'm pretty sure I'm way over 100 books this year but need to confirm with my Kindle and Amazon accounts + ARC's/Galleys, etc... I did a lot of reading and hope to do even more next year!

I'm not sure I'm going to make it. I'm at 85. I've got three smallish books, but I don't want to read just for the win. I want to read because I want to read the books. Some of you have some amazing numbers. I have trouble remembering what I've read at under one hundred books. I've enjoyed trying to make it though and I'll do it again! It's a great way to keep up with what I read.

I was doing this challenge but I never linked! Your site has been such a help to me! These challenges have made my year!!!!

I've only just discovered this and I want to sign up for next year. Too late this year for me now. I've only read about 46 books through the year. It will be a great challenge for me. 2 books per week, consistently.

Daz said...

I just counted all the books I've read this year and as of today, I've read 101 books. Woo hoo! I'll sign up and leave a link to my blog where I've posted a list of all the books, I think.

Can't believe I will actually finish 100 books before the end of the year? Or will I??? 6 books to go and one 6 month baby might be the downfall...but a cute downfall and well worth it!

James said...

I've reach 100! Many times I was certain I never would finish. Something I'm very pleased with: 93 of 100 books I read were library loans. This is a credit to my wonderful local libraries.

I* dont'have a blog, aqm on 347 and could do one more this year, but thatis it. Will post to A Novel Challnge the list

Will jump over to the libary tomorrow and start stacking up books, here we also can order books via the web and get an sms when they arrive in the library. And also suggest books for them to buy...

Look forward to many nice books in 2011

Kerrie said...

Looks like I have finished the year with 136 books. Thanks for the incentive.

Luanne said...

145 for me!

Hearth-mother said...

Not quite there, but I'll do it in 2011, especially since I got a Kindle for Christmas...!

Sheila said...

I finished the year reading 101 novels/nonfiction books. Now if I counted all of the children's picture books I have read to my 2nd graders and my own children, it would be higher. LOL! Excited for the 2011 challenges!!

BURIED IN BOOKS said...

I only made it to 89 so I have to let go of the challenge. Still I'm proud of making it that far. It's not 500 but it's doable when you're me. Thanks for the challenge!

I am hoping to make 100 books, even while going to school this next year. We'll see I'm looking forward to this challenge. Thanks for hosting.
