The idea behind this 12 by 12 Reading Challenge came from two bloggers, Pizza’s Book Discussion in 2009 and FOMA’s National Just Read More Novel’s Month 2010. There will be twelve book bloggers, each hosting their own Just Read More Novel’s Month throughout 2010.
Participants can join in one, two, or all twelve of these separate reading challenges. Each month starts a brand new reading challenge. And the goal? To simply read more novels. Each of us will follow the guidelines set for January’s NaJuReMoNoMo.
The rules are whatever you want to make of them, but here are the guidelines the creator of NaJuReMoNoMo goes by:
1. Must Be A Novel. Works of fiction only, please. Memoirs, non-fiction, how-to books, and Garfield collections don't count.
2. Memoirs Aren't Novels. No matter how made up the story, anything ostensibly true isn't a novel. Also known as The James Frey Rule.
3. Start and Finish in January. I guess if you got some cool books for Christmas, Hanukkah or some other gift-giving event and jumped the gun, you can't be blamed. But I only count books I start and finish within the 31 day window.
4. Re-reading Doesn't Count. Try something new. Read something by your favorite author or try an entirely new author or tackle that novel you have always wanted to read.
5. Have Fun. Nobody is grading you or paying you or judging you. Read what you like and like what you read.
When FOMA’s National Just Read More Novel’s Month 2010 ends on January 31st, a new Just Read More Novel’s Month will begin on February and will end on February 28th. Royal Reviews will then host the next one, starting on March 1st and ending March 31st and so on.
The above will change as each reading challenge host takes over. Below are the book blogs who are hosting these reading challenges.
J. Kaye’s Book Blog is hosting February.
Alaine - Queen of Happy Endings is hosting March.
One Person’s Journey Through a World of Books is hosting April.
Page Turners is hosting May.
Misfit Salon is hosting June.
Good Books & Wine is hosting July.
Bookworming in the 21st Century is hosting August.
Bibliofreak is hosting September.

Hi J. Kaye, I'll be running this one on my blog not Royal Reviews. Thanks, can't wait to get started!
I am on a different challenge, 50 books in 1 year, but it could add this on, most of the books I read are novels.
great blog!!!
my: http://livrariaoutubro.blogspot.com/
I am so excited to host an event as well as to work hard to read more as well! :) 200 books that's a high goal, I think you can do it though - I have 100 set but I am thinking I might go higher than that! :)
Ah my first challenge hosting task. Thankfully I have several months to prepare. I might need that heh. I hope to read 75 books this year.
Yay, my very first challenge ever! I'll have to learn from you veterans - I hope I do my part right. I'm having trouble even writing, let alone pronouncing "NaJuReMoNoMo."
I may have to break my no-new-challenges for this one. This looks like an awesome challenge.
Good luck with the 200 books. I'm aiming for about that this year. I read just over 180 last year so I'm hoping to hit the 200 mark this year.
wohoo......looks like a tough challenge....

I'm totally in! I would love to host one maybe next year ;)
This should keep us all on our toes. I have two more to go to complete the January challenge. February here I come.
Alaine - Queen of Happy Endings - All corrected!
Cláudia Charão - That was my thinking. This will break the larger reading challenge up into more bite size pieces.
Jenn - I really am too and I can't thank everyone enough.
StephanieD & Zia - This one is an easy one. :) Very little rules...lol.
Bella - this is exactly what I need to keep my feet to the fire.
cj'alhafiz - Nah, an easy one.
Steena Holmes - Awesome! If a host isn't able to do one, would you like to be a 911 back-up host?
Jan von Harz - UGH! I have like eight more...lol. I am shooting for 16 in January. And I started like a week late.
Jan von Harz - And congrats! That is an awesome achievement.
This looks like a lot of fun!
This sounds cool! Can't wait to read more!
Wow! Like this idea! Makes it more flexible for readers, by joining in any month(s) they want. Good going!
This should keep me focused thank you for hosting this!
I am looking forward to this very much. I was already signed up for January. I have finished 16 of my hoped for 20. My goal is to read a minimum of 10 - 20 books a month.
Love the meme! This will be so fun!
What a great idea! I don't know if I will be able to sign up though. I guess that is the nice thing though . . . I can choose depending on what's going on that month! AHA!! There I go thinking while typing again and the brilliance just soaked in!! :)
I'm out for January, but I might sign up for February plus one or more of the other months.
I didn't see it on there, but I'm assuming crossovers to other challenges are acceptable? It could also be my brain not functioning correctly...this baby is sucking the brains right out of my head. (hrm...zombie baby?) So please put up with my stupidity! It should be short-lived!
This seems great to share the hosting throughout the year! I hope everyone has a lot of fun!
I'm thinking about joining along since I already read mostly novels! This gives me an idea - I think I will track month to month how I compare this year to last!
This sounds great, will think about joining in on some of the months. Well done to everyone hosting and good luck J. Kaye on reaching target two hundred!
This sounds interesting. I'll have to think on it though...I've already joined 30+ challenges this year!
I have an award for you:
http://thetruebookaddict.blogspot.com/2010/01/awards.html
Sounds interesting and fun. I think I'll commit on a month by month basis! I'm not doing a good as I had hoped this month, life keeps getting in the way! :)
This is fabulous! I'm so glad someone took the idea and ran with it.
I'll be watching for monthly sign-ups
Oh I think I'll try it! Great motivator.
Jennifer - Glad you think so!
Connie - Hope you'll join in one or more. :)
Aths - That's what I was thinking. Give readers that extra push.
Heidi V - Me too...lol.
Sandra Stiles - I did the math and I'll need to finish 16 each month for 4 mos and 17 for each of the remaining. I really hope I can make it this year.
Sheila (Bookjourney) - I look forward to this. :)
Tif - You go it!
Jenn M. - yep! Those are acceptable...or I wouldn't do it. :)
MarthaE - There's no way I wanted to do this myself. Having other blogs really adds in the extra fun.
Teddyree - This will be my last year trying, so I'll give it all I have.
thetruebookaddict - That was me last year. :)
Sharon - I have a feeling that's what most will do. No telling what this new year will bring.
Book Dragon - LOL! That's me, the runner...lol.
Natalie W - I think so to! :)
I want to join this! Awesome and I like the monthly choice and different hosts! Where do I sign up?? Thanks!!!
This will be cool to get started on :)
I like the flexibility since I can schedule things when my two jobs are coexisting instead of competing for my time. Thanks!
This is going to be so fun. We're excited to be part of it. I like the monthly set up.
Looking forward to starting next month. Thanks for letting us participate!
I think I'll join for February and decide each month thereafter. I do have some questions:
Are e-books and audio books allowed?
Are the novels adult fiction only? Or can we read YA and children's fiction too? (I'm assuming suspense, thrillers, and cozy mysteries are ok, right?)
Looking forward to starting in February.
Shonda
I'm going to join in for February, and then see what other months I want to join in on after that... this is a good (needed) challenge for me, as I've been feeling like I should read more fiction. ;)
My page for the challenge.
~MizB
this is excellent!!!!
i love it sooo much...will definitely be joining in every month!!!
I have high reading goals this year so this is going to be a wonderful incentive :)
I found your blog and decided to join about a week and a half ago and then something stopped me from posting (the dog probably needed to go out). I need to read more novels although, I'm not up to the ambitiousness of 200 in a year. I love biographies and memoirs as well and don't want to give them up. But...I'm half way through my 3rd novel for January so that's pretty good for me. Count me in! I've put your button on my blog!
I only ended up with one novel in January... but I am still going to participate.
Have fun reading everyone...
This is great. I am so happy to see my idea being carried out all year. Have a lot of fun with it.
I posted a page with ALL current reading challenges. Let me know if you want me to add any other information to your challenge. I hope it brings even more readers to your challenge!
Reading Challenges.
Rachelle (Bibliobabe)
I'm a day or two (or a few) late with my update, but I did manage to read 17 novels during February!
